Formation by Beyonce:

This song is a song of self affirmation. It is a manifesto set and it has a laser gun beat. This song talks about the disaporic roots and the complexities of America. It talks about the resilience of African Americans despite the hate crimes and storms. It talks about self reliance and vigilance. It talks about after Katrina and the all that is taking place.

Your best American girl by Mitski:

This is all about a relationship and how it is not working as it is American. The song is about how the protagonist ends things as she doesn’t want to portray what she isn’t. The song is great as itis about what we think of what an All American boy is supposed to be.

Ultra Beam by KanyeWest:

This song is about Kanye’s desire to be more than his ego. It is about sanctifying the ego. During the trackKanye makes utterances which are like stage direction. There are tracks which are like musicians who fiddle on the organ and those playing o the snare drum. In this, Kanye offers chances to different voices so that they can articulate their God dreams. However, all these voices surface and vanish. They yet, seem to be alone in their own space. In this, there is the battle where the darkness is fought against but it cannot totally be dissipated.

You want it darker by Leonard Cohen:

This is a testament and a hymnal. It talks about humans who are futile in the beliefs and humans who are at their worst. It is almost as if his audience is not people but a higher power he is singing to.

What it means by Drive-by truckers:

These truckers point out that the white folks need to fight racism which is perpetuated by other white people. In this album, the truckers state that they do not have the answers that are needed, but at the same time they do not feel that people should not take responsibility for all the violence that takes place. This is a protest song which is very relevant for our times. It is all about opening our eyes to reality and taking responsibility ourselves.
